MORNING TEA WITH MY FLYING NEIGHBORS

Good Morning Tribe! After the birth of my son, Ruhaan, days are flying quickly and I hardly find time to write.

But this is definitely one of the rare mornings for the new mum. Baby Ruhaan is sleeping well in his bed (hope he doesn’t wake up and make me run to him before finishing this post). It is a lovely foggy morning, one of my favorite Dubai thing (when I am not driving!) and I am having my relaxed morning tea looking outside our window. This place is my personalized bird watching site in Dubai, I guess many residents in Dubai living in landscaped communities must be enjoying similar personalized bird watching sites.

When you are watching birds, I will highly recommend you keep your camera away and simply observe the bird-behavior. Even if you are not a big lover, I guarantee once you start observing the behavior of birds, you will start liking them more. It is also very entertaining, honestly. So let me unfold some drama, I watched from my window.

Feathery Drama

I was glad to see my favorite flying neighbor on the lamp-post just below my window, little green bee-eater. He was busy catching his breakfast (bees), but this time alone. I don’t know where his partner was, generally, these birds are found in pairs.

He was missing for a month from this lamp-post, where he used to spend almost the whole day previously.

After a while, this laughing dove tried to claim this lamp-post, but he couldn’t change Bee-eater’s mind.

Then a pair of Bulbul came and sat side by side to green bee-eater. Bee-eater kept moving his head all the time looking out for bees and I found these Bulbuls imitating him, moving their heads (but not that fast, of course, they are not designed for it).

ee-eater, Laughing dove and Bulbuls shared the lamp post peacefully, they were happy to co-exist. But in the end, a fat common myna arrived on the lamp-post and this poor little bee-eater flew quickly and vanished from the scene.
Now I got the answer to why I couldn’t find my favorite neighbor since I came back.

Common Myna

This is a perfect example of how newly introduced species in the UAE’s environment are threatening the smaller species in the UAE. Also, the common myna is a very aggressive bird species, they even try to claim your windows and balconies if you let them.
